Youth Detention Facility At Lewisville To Close Until Further Notice

The Youth Detention Facility at Lewisville is set to close for an undetermined amount of time.  The move comes as a different company gets ready to take over managing all state youth detention facilities until 2023.  The new company, Rite of Passage, is headquartered in Nevada.  The Youth Detention Facilities include those in Dermott, Harrisburg, Alexander, and Mansfield.  No reason was given for the closure of the Lewisville site.  8 young people were reported at the Lafayette County facility.  They are to be transferred to other facilities.  The Youth Detention Centers had been operated by “Youth Opportunity Investments” since July of last year but that company told the state it would not seek another year’s contract citing financial concerns.
