ARKADELPHIA – The Ellis College of Arts and Sciences recently honored some of Henderson State University’s most outstanding students. These students were chosen by the faculty in the academic departments in five categories. The Outstanding Creative Accomplishment award goes to a student who exhibits outstanding performance or accomplishments in Artistic creativity, Research, or Service to others. Three categories recognize the outstanding academic achievement of one freshman, sophomore, and junior in each department. The recipients of this award must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, and other considerations for this award might include difficulties overcome in maintaining high academic standards, quality of involvement in campus activities, leadership, and service to the university community. The Outstanding Graduating Senior award may be bestowed on one student in each major. The student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and have either graduated in the fall semester or be eligible to graduate in the spring semester. The faculty of the department in which the award is being made establishes other criteria to determine which of their students deserve the Outstanding Graduating Senior award.

Brooke Faulkner, a graphic design major from Hope, is the recipient of a Presidential Academic Scholarship. The award announcement said Brooke “is a high-achieving student who hopes to pursue a career that allows her to follow her artistic passions through illustration and graphic design.  We are confident that she will make the department and the university proud as she carries her creativity and unique outlook out into the world!”

“The circumstances in our world have altered nearly every aspect of our lives. One of the many consequences of social distancing is that we had to cancel our annual live ceremony honoring some of our most outstanding students. Yet even in the midst of these changes, our students continue to be outstanding, creative, and accomplished. Although we cannot gather together in a large crowd to recognize these amazing individuals, we still want to celebrate their achievements,” said Angela Boswell, Dean of Matt Locke Ellis College of Arts and Sciences. We are very proud of these students’ wonderful accomplishments, we are proud to have them as students in Ellis College, and we are very proud that they have chosen to be impressive representatives of Henderson State University.”
