Martin adds bakery to Prescott Flowers

PRESCOTT – There’s a new bakery in Prescott.

The new bakery is part of Prescott Flowers and, apparently, is becoming a favorite with local and area residents since restrictions have been eased with the coronavirus. Kaylea Martin bought the business in Nov. 2018 and began renovating the building’s interior. Along with the bakery, it houses plenty of flowers, gifts and seasonal flags.

During the shutdown, Martin advertised her wares on Facebook to help keep the doors open. It worked as people were ready for something different after being cooped up more than a month. Martin said the idea came from her grandmother, who baked and sold cakes out of her house for a living. It was her grandmother who taught her how to bake. “She’s my inspiration,” Martin said.

The baking bug took hold and, for a while, Martin sold baked goods from her home, but this was before she bought Prescott Flowers. Now, she bakes cookies, cakes, pies, muffins and cupcakes. She offers two flavors of muffins a week, and three flavors of cupcakes per week.

However, during the shutdown, she also sold outside plants to help pay the bills as the bakery stopped when the virus hit. Martin plans on expanding what the bakery offers to include different  casseroles, such as: chicken spaghetti, spaghetti, lasagna and Mexican chicken, among others.

There’s more to Prescott flowers  than just flowers and baked goods, though. Martin also  has a wide variety of gifts  and toys, including a line of Melissa and Doug toys, spring, summer and patriotic flags, and wrought iron items.
