Troop 5 Completes Summer Camp On Lake DeGray

Scout Troop 5 recently held their 2020 Summer Camp at the Ross-Rhodes Scout

Camp on DeGray Lake. Activities included 8 Merit Badge classes, swimming,

boating, tubing, kayaking, water skiing, Seadoos and lots more fun

activites. Billy Lafferty and Chris Connell took several of the Scouts

kayaking on the Caddo River.

On Wednesday the Scouts spent the day at Magic Springs in Hot Springs. All

camp meals were prepared by the Scouts and adult leaders. Tyson chicken and

Super One ribs were donated. Donnie Golden brought his big smoker to provide

delicious meals. Hope Auto’s big griddle cooked lots of food fast for the

Scouts.

Summer camp was provided at no cost to the Scouts due to donations from

Chuck Eldridge for Hope Auto and a few others.

Ed Flagg bought his ski boat for the week. Donnie Golden brought his party

barge. Billy Lafferty provided the Seadoos and kayaks.

The merit badge classes included: Swimming, Electricity, Motor Boating,

Water Sports, American Labor, Astronomy, Art, Woodcarving and Digital

Technology. Astronomy and Art included drawing the surface of the moon and

labelling landmarks they could see. And the Scouts used laser designators to

learn the stars and constellations.

Scouts also cooked the meals working toward their cooking requirements.

Karen Smith led a devotional service on Sunday evening.

Scouts attending were : Hunter Mathis and Joshua Henley, Senior Patrol

Leaders; D’Aunna Golden, Zoe Fincher, Baker Alexander, Riley Golden,

Sterling Sawyer, Emma Wright, Mackenzi Golden, Mary Martinez, Cody Golden,

Kody O’Brien, Drake Golden, Drake Mathis.

Adult Leaders were: Karen Smith, Scoutmaster; Ed Flagg, Scott McCorkle,

Jason Flagg, Ken Shafer, Donnie Golden, Jerrilynn Golden, Robert Wright,

Betty Wright, Tina Kisselburg and Dr. Lester Sitzes.

Guests were: Laurie Mathis, Sue Gilbert, Jennifer Martinez, Melody Martinez,

Jay Johnson, Tristan Sitzes, Karla Castro, Billy Lafferty, Chris Connell,

Dr. Damian Stroderd and his wife Debbie, and Sara and Kaden O’Brien.

Scout Troop 5 is sponsored by Hope’s First United Methodist Church Century

Bible Class.
