Grand Old Opry Star and Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie Daniels recently passed away. He is remembered fondly for his two concerts in Hope. Daniels played a concert at the Hope Watermelon Festival in 1990. He was the first big-name entertainer to play the festival. He returned several years ago to perform a well-received show at Hempstead Hall. Those who worked with Daniels in Hope were complimentary of him and pronounced him a gentleman.
