HOPE – The Hempstead County Women’s Farm Bureau Committee has selected Tara Fleming as their AG Woman of the month.

Her fondest memories as a child are always being outside. If you couldn’t find her, it was because she was either playing in a pond or creek somewhere or finding some kind of animal/bug to play with. Well, some things never change. Never thought about being a beekeeper, but about seven years ago a friend of hers introduced her to them. They are truly amazing creatures!

Tara and her husband got married in 2005. Together they have three boys. Growing up in the country, they have gotten to experience a little bit of everything from helping in chicken houses to cutting, baling, and loading hay. They have also helped their dad with welding or building projects. All in all they have had a well rounded work experience at a young age. They also love the outdoors. Hunting and fishing is a big part of their lives.

Gardening became a passion of Tara’s after she got married. The first year they planted a garden, she didn’t quite know what to do with all the produce coming out of it. So, that’s when she started canning. She has always watched her Mom and Grandmother in the kitchen cooking and canning food while growing up; now, she gets to continue on the tradition.
