Hempstead County Reports Minor Damage From Storm

Hurricane/Tropical Storm Laura brought steady rain and wind to Hempstead County Thursday but little damage.  Sheriff James Singleton reports there were some trees down including one on US 278 and also noted the sign was blown off the Hempstead County Detention Center but otherwise, except for a little wind damage in the county impound yard, things were not bad.  Hope Water and Light did some heroic repairs Thursday afternoon off highway 29 north near the Relax Inn.  The crews in these bucket trucks were up fixing lines with 20 to 30 mile per hour winds blowing.  We appreciate Hope Water & Light and all the emergency crews who kept things going during the storm!
