PRESCOTT – Hamilton Haven recently served its first guests, a family which had relocated from the Lake Charles area due to Hurricane Laura.

Those who stayed at Hamilton Haven were an extended family consisting of two women and three children, ages 10, four and eight months. The 10-year-old was a special needs child requiring a ventilator. Initially, the family was at a hotel in Texarkana, but looking for a place to stay. The Children’s Hospital in New Orleans contacted the Randy Sams Shelter only to find it wasn’t  licensed for children.

Jane Portis, the residential case manager at Randy Sams, contacted representatives from Hamilton Haven. Michele Rhodes and Christy Higginbotham met the family and found they met the criteria to stay. The family stayed for a week, from Aug. 30 through Sept. 5, before returning to the Lake Charles area.

Hamilton Haven has their contact information as follow-up is part of its process. This was the first opportunity to  provide the service Hamilton Haven was made for. Nathan Tidwell, with Hamilton Haven, said everyone was pleased to help a family in need and the family was impressed with the house.
