MAGNOLIA — Southern Arkansas University continues to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among its students, faculty and staff. As the University looks to the spring semester, it is taking steps now to continue to keep the campus safe.  Changes have been made to the spring semester calendar to reduce the potential of students traveling or gathering in large groups and spreading the virus.

The University will have more single-day breaks during the semester as opposed to the traditional week-long spring break.

“We don’t want students to travel and risk them contracting COVID-19 and returning to school,” said Dr. Trey Berry, SAU president. “We are diligently working to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all of our students, staff and faculty. Our students have done an amazing job of following the protocols we have in place to help prevent the spread of the virus and our numbers reflect their diligence.  We don’t want to do anything to hinder that and put our students at risk.”

Due to the reduced number of days students will have out during the course of the semester, the term will end earlier than normal with spring commencement scheduled for April 30.

Late registration for the spring semester will be held January 11 and 12, 2021, with classes beginning on January 13.

SAU’s updated spring semester calendar is as follows:

January 13 – First day of class

January 18 – Martin Luther King, Jr Holiday – no class

March 5 – Virtual class day

April 2 – No class

April 29 – End of semester

April 30 – Spring Commencement
