The Washington Volunteer Fire Department took possession of a new tanker truck on Monday.  The new tanker was provided by the Arkansas Forestry Division’s Rural Fire Protection Program.  The truck is military surplus.  Arkansas Forestry Division serviced the truck at no cost to Washington.  AFD then built the fire truck body on the military truck chassis.  Building and equipping the truck body cost the Washington VFD just over $17,000.
Washington’s old tanker had been in service at least 15 years.  It had been with the department longer than all the current firefighters.  The truck had become unreliable and it was not longer cost effective to repair it.
