Martin’s Celebrates 61 Years In Hope

By Staff, 10/20/20 3:03 PM

Martin’s started business in October 1959 in a small space in downtown Hope.  That space is currently used as the Tailgater’s patio!  So how did Martin’s go from a small space in downtown Hope to a 25,000 square foot facility that houses Arkansas’s largest business of its kind?  For one thing, Martin’s has continually tried new methods and tried new ways of doing business.
The store was opened by Earl and Sammy Martin and became Hope’s fifth shoe store when it opened.  By the 1970’s Martin’s had expanded into the Village Shopping Center and in 1972 opened a store in Prescott.  Martin’s moved the Village store in 1985 to the West Department Store (most recently the site of Stage) and opened at their current location in 1988 as “Martin’s Footnotes & Fashions”.  In the meantime, the downtown store had moved a block south on Main Street (to where Karen’s Boutique is now located).  The Prescott store closed in the 80’s and eventually all the Hope operations were consolidated in the North Hervey store which had been expanded several times.  The most recent expansion brought the store, offices, and warehouse space up to 25,000 square feet.  Martin’s added a Hallmark Gold Crown store to their Hervey location and is about to house “Two Crumbs”.  Two Crumbs will feature the tasty creations of Tara Fleming and Melina Adams.  Customers can purchase their creations in the store or order online for curbside pickup.
This year has been especially fruitful for Martin’s.  The store expanded it’s home, gift, and checkout area to better serve its customers.  New customer shoppable friendly Clinique and Estee Lauder displays have recently been installed.  The Martin Family has also acquired the Red Wing Shoe Store in Texarkana for your premium work boot needs
Martin’s is in its third generation in Hope and looks forward to continuing to serve both through the “brick and mortar” location and various online options such as shopmartins.com.  Their 61st anniversary sale continues through October 31st and the public is invited to shop in the largest family-owned shoe and clothing store in the state…right here in Hope!
