Food distribution Wednesday

PRESCOTT – About  24 volunteers showed up to box two truckloads of food to be  distributed Wednesday morning.

Randy Morris, CEO of the Central Arkansas Development Council (CADC), said 350 boxes will  be  handed out. Funding for the food distribution comes from the CARES Act, which has guidelines  on how it can be spent. Morris said the CADC chose to have another food  distribution and use some of the money to help those in need with rent and utility expenses. The CADC received $1.8 million to do the first distribution and $1.2 million for this one.

The volunteers observed social distancing and wore masks while at the Potlatch Building at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. Hand sanitizer was also on hand and Morris said a disinfectant fogger  was brought along to help disinfect  the building when they’re done.

The food boxes will contain: cereal, macaroni, cranberry sauce, yams, pinto beans, dry milk, sugar, corn, green beans, flour, corn meal, roll mix, brownie mix, potatoes, 10 pounds of chicken and two packages of bologna.

While the distribution is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., Morris said it could begin early if people are showing up. The distribution in May was also set to begin at 10 a.m., but actually started at 8 a.m. and was done by 10.
