HOPE – The Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce is launching Adopt-A-Shop in support of local small businesses. Adopt-A-Shop focuses on shopping and dining in the local community.

Starting with Small Business Saturday (November 28) and continuing through the end of the year, the chamber says “everyone is encouraged to adopt a local shop, which includes local eateries. In order to fully participate, please “adopt” at least one of our local businesses by promising to shop/dine with them and show support on a weekly basis.”

According to the United States Small Business Administration, there are 30.7 million small businesses in the United States, and they are responsible for 64.9% of net new jobs created from 2000 to 2018. Small businesses are in need of consumer spending to return to pre-COVID levels by the end of 2020 in order to stay in business. 97% of consumers who shop small agree that small businesses are essential to their community.

Beckie Moore, chamber director states, “The ADOPT-A-SHOP initiative will be Facebook driven and supported. We want to hear from our local community as they “adopt a shop” and consistently support them from now until the end of the year. The chamber asks that you post selfies outside/inside the businesses you choose to “adopt” using #adoptashop & #bevocalaboutlocal and tag the chamber. The chamber will share your pictures as you help us help our community shop small.”
