First Night of Oakhaven Luminaries

By Staff, 12/13/20 7:43 PM

The first night of luminaries were held at Oakhaven on Saturday.  The luminaries were lit at dusk and burned brightly until well after 9pm.  Virtually every home is decorated and the small community is on the Arkansas Trail of Lights.  While the townsfolk were not able to distribute their regular cocoa and cookies this year, Santa and Mrs. Clause were out to offer Christmas greetings to those passing by.

The luminaries will be lit again on Saturday December 19th at dusk, weather permitting.  In the meantime, the Christmas lights are lit almost every evening and will be until New Years.  The public is invited to drive through the historic community and enjoy the lights.

Oakhaven’s historic two-story homes were constructed as officer’s quarters for the Southwest Proving Grounds in 1940.  Following the war, they were first made available to returning World War II veterans.  The town is located 3 miles north of I-30 off highway 32 and can be accessed by taking highway 29 north to 32.
