LITTLE ROCK – Students from NorthWest Arkansas Community College have won the $5,000 grand prize in the “Cancel COVID on College Campuses” video contest, and submissions by students from several other Arkansas colleges and universities were also honored.

The Arkansas Department of Health through its Office of Health Equity and its Be Well Arkansas program created the contest to challenge students across the state to produce compelling videos that would promote ways to stop the spread of COVID-19 in higher education settings.

Each team was asked to submit a short, fact-based YouTube video that used entertainment, emotion, creativity and/or humor to motivate other students to follow COVID-19 safety guidelines. In addition to the grand prize of $5,000, one runner-up received $2,500 and the 10 honorable mentions each received $1,000.
“The winning entry clearly showed the effects COVID-19 can have on campus, all while calling on fellow students to do their part in stopping the spread,” said Dr. Michelle R. Smith, Director of the Office of Health Equity. “The video shared important information, had calls to action and showcased diversity on campus, including by making a Spanish version of the video.”
