PRESCOTT – Merry Christmas to Prescott.

First Fitness and Tanning is open for business. It’s been a while since Prescott has had a fitness center, but the long wait for those who like working out is over.

The business is located at 303 E Third St., and held a ribbon tying event to kick things off. Normally a ribbon cutting would be done to welcome new businesses into the area, but with COVID-19, the owners, Christina Goins, Nick Pandya and Angela Goins, went for safety first to avoid possibly spreading the virus.

They offer weight training, stationary bikes, tanning and have a heavy bag for those who want to hone their boxing skills, or just to work out some frustration by pounding on something. All equipment is sanitized after every use, again to protect clients from possibly gettingĀ  COVID. There’s no personal trainer on sight yet, but could be one in the future. In addition, Christina Goins said they plan to expand when possible and add more equipment. In fact, other equipment is currently on order. There’s no shower facility yet, but one will be available in the near future. Future plans, she added, are to add a sauna as there’s been a lot of requests for one.

Initially, she said, the idea was to open the first week in January, but as the equipment piled up in her home options quickly became limited. She thanked Jamie Hillery and the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce for helping her find the building for the center.

First Fitness will also have a massage therapist on hand the week after Christmas to help prepare people for those post-holiday bills.

The center is open from 5 a.m.until 10 p.m. seven-days-a-week, except for Christmas.

The daily use rates for the gym are $5 or $50 a month. Tanning is $5 per day, $35 for 10 visits or $50 a month. For both the gym and tanning, it’s $85 per month. Family rates are also available. For a family of two, it’s $80 a month, for three, it’s $115; and a family of four runs $150 a month.

“We’re excited,” she said. “This was a personal need of mine and I know others needed it as well.”
