MAGNOLIA – Southern Arkansas University is excited to welcome students back to campus for Spring Semester 2021. While some changes are necessary to remain in compliance with state and federal safety guidelines, SAU plans a robust academic semester and student experience in the midst of the pandemic. A mix of hybrid and in-person classes began Wednesday, Jan. 13.

SAU continues to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The University has taken steps to reduce the potential of students traveling or gathering in large groups and spreading the virus. The University will have more single-day breaks during the semester as opposed to the traditional week-long Spring Break. Due to the reduced number of days students will have out, the term will end earlier than normal with spring commencement set for April 30.

“Our students have done an amazing job of following protocols we have in place. We don’t want to do anything to hinder that and put our students at risk,” said Dr. Trey Berry, SAU’s president.

All faculty, staff, students and visitors are required to wear an appropriate face covering while inside campus facilities where six feet social distancing may not always be possible. Face covering use is not a substitute for social distancing.

SAU’s updated spring semester calendar is as follows:

January 18 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday – no class

March 5 – Virtual class day

April 2 – No class

April 29 – End of semester

April 30 – Spring Commencement
