Sales tax collection down in 2020

PRESCOTT – COVID-19 had an adverse affect on sales tax collection in Prescott and Nevada County in 2020.

According to a report from the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, sales tax collection was down in both areas. In 2020, the city collected $744,629.10 in sales tax, compared to the 2019 figure of $852,781.74. This was $108,152.64 less. Nevada County, in 202, collected 1,919,318.15, whereas the amount was was $2,130,778.40 in 2019. This is a difference of $211,460.25.

The city and county, overall, has a 9.5 percent sales tax. The breakdown, shows the state has a tax of 6.5 percent, the county’s tax is 2 percent and the city has a 1 percent sales tax.
