HOPE – Hope Public Schools Board Zone 3 Representative Margaret Moss announced her retirement from the board Monday night.

Mrs. Moss was eligible to seek re-election this year, but chose not to file for the position.

“I know I had some big shoes to fill,” Moss said, referring to former Board President Willie Buck whom she replaced by appointment after Buck’s retirement. “I’m grateful for the short time I have served with the board.”

Moss said she chose not to seek re-election because of her health.

“We appreciate the service you have given and the willingness to serve,” HPS Superintendent Dr. Bobby Hart said after Moss’ announcement. “We wish you the best in all your walks of life. You have been a pleasure to work with.”

Hart said the board will be required to appoint a replacement for Moss in June when her term expires. He said there have been no contested elections created this year for the three board positions held by Board President Linda Haynes in Zone 5; Moss in Zone 3; and David “Bubba” Powers in Zone 2.

As a result, the HPS election will be conducted by early and absentee voting only, Hart said.
