A group of local volunteers gathered at Hickory and Long Street to remove the remains of a house destroyed by February’s record snow storm. According to Hope City Director Reginald Easter, he was in the area last week and encountered the homeowner, David Williams who appeared to be down. Easter asked Williams why he was discouraged and he explained he needed to clear out the destroyed house to make way for a new one to be built by Banner Hope. Easter said he told Williams that wouldn’t be a problem so he contacted several people to help. As a result, volunteers from Haynes Chapel Baptist Church, Rising Star Baptist Church the Masonic Lodge, the Corvette Club, the Diamond Cutters Motorcycle Club, and the City of Hope came out to help clear the lot. The city is taking the debris from the house that can’t be recycled. Thanks to these outstanding volunteers for helping their neighbor in his time of need!
Banner Hope is an organization begun 3 years ago to help juveniles involved in Drug Court. With the advent of COVID, Banner Hope was limited in how they could serve the juveniles. The group has broadened their scope of influence to help adult males as well. Daniel Bramlett works with Banner Hope and the organization has been helping Williams with the demolition of the house and also will be building Williams a new home on the site. Banner Hope has helped with several other structural projects in the community.
