PRESCOTT – Marsha Poole was the winner of the Prescott Rotary Club’s raffle – a smoker/grill.
The drawing was held Tuesday during the club’s regular meeting. Poole was notified she’d won and was told she could pick the grill up at the Bank of Delight.
During the meeting, Ivory Curry, with Curry’s Community Outreach, talked about how the outreach feeds an average of 135 people a month, though the number was higher before the pandemic hit. He told the club the figures are improving and he’s getting a lot of support from the community.
Curry said fellowship is as important as providing the meals as it gives people the opportunity to be out and about with one another while also giving something back. When asked about future plans, he said, he’d like to have something for young people once or twice a week during the summer to give them something to do. Ideally, he told the club, he’d like the outreach to be able to address all the community’s needs.
With the center being non-profit and having 501(c)3 status, all donations are tax deductible. Curry said the outreach depends on donations, which are used for insurance, utilities, maintenance and programs for the community. “I’m not competing with anyone,” he said, “I just want to build the community up.”
The club voted to donate $500 to the center.
In other business, club president Bo Young said the club does well on its fundraisers and hopes to be able to send a young person to leadership camp next year, providing the camp is open and someone can be found who’s interested in attending.
The club will be at the opening of the Nevada County Farmer’s Market Friday morning, holding a bake sale. They will be offering cakes, cookies, bread and tea cakes.
The club plans on having a BBQ lunch in August as another fundraiser.
