Blevins School Board

The Blevins School Board met Monday evening at 6:30pm in the Blevins School Cafeteria. The meeting started with prayer, the pledge, and the approval of the last meeting’s minutes.
The meeting largely consisted of end-of-year contract renewals and financial minutia, but there were a couple matters of discussion. One was the acceptance of a bid on the school’s current decommissioned school buses. The unusable buses have been sitting in the maintenance lot for several years now, and Superintendent Dixon was happy to present the board with a bid for the purchase of all five. The bid was accepted unanimously.
Another matter addressed was the updating of the district-wide AMI plan. AMI stands for Alternate Methods of Instruction, which include digital instruction and classwork packets. The plan details methods available for continuing student education in the event of the school being forced to close for a time. Along those lines, the school will be offering the option of digital instruction for the 21-22 school year as well. Dixon is confident the district is much better prepared to accommodate and support remote learning heading into this next school year.
Finally, Dixon proposed an alteration to the district’s Ready For Learning plan that would make the wearing of face masks optional on campus. It is worth noting that the use of masks would remain highly recommended, but no longer be mandatory. There was very little debate, and the board approved the amendment unanimously, their ruling going into effect immediately.
Other issues discussed include the purchase of 6 new Promethean boards, the initialization and staffing of Summer School, the Athletics department dropping Golf as an offered sport in favor of Cross Country, the purchase of a shot clock for the school gymnasium in anticipation of changing league requirements, and a 10-cent increase of lunch prices in the next school year (all prices will be listed in the Student Handbook).
The meeting’s minutes can be found on the Blevins School District’s web page.
