Census Numbers Released, No Good News For Southwest Arkansas

The first numbers have been released for the 2020 census and they don’t show any good news for southwest Arkansas. The numbers show Hope’s population at 8,952 down from just over 10,000. Prescott’s population is shown at 3,101. Other area cities have also shown decreases. Arkadelphia came in at 10,380, a drop of 334. Magnolia is showing a 2020 population of 11,162, a drop of about 500. Nashville’s population came in a 4,153, down from 4,627 in 2010. Ashdown’s population came in at 4,261, down from 4,723 in 2010. Camden showed a significant drop to 10,612 as opposed to the 2010 population of 12,183. DeQueen dropped to 6,105 down from 6,629 in 2010.
Smaller towns around the area also showed decreases. Stamps showed a 2020 population of 1,258, down from 1,693 in 2010. Lewisville’s 2020 population is shown as 915, down from 1,280 in 2020. To the north, Murfreesboro’s 2020 population is shown as 1,495 compared to 1,641 in 2010. Glenwood went from 2,228 in 2010 to 2,068 in 2020.
Populations in the smaller towns in Hempstead and Nevada County also showed declines. Blevins is shown as going from 315 in 2010 to 288 in 2020. Washington dropped to 94 in 2020 from 180 in 2010. Other populations of for 2020 of small communities in Hempstead and Nevada County included Bluff City at 118, Bodcaw at 121, Emmet at 415, Fulton at 115, McCaskill at 57, McNab at 30, Oakhaven at 65, Ozan at 50, Patmos at 57, Perrytown at 232, Cale at 73, Rosston at 272, and Willisville at 148.
The largest city in our region, Texarkana, Arkansas went from 29,919 in 2010 to 29,387 in 2020.
