34 show at premium sale

PRESCOTT – Thirty-four children showed animals at the Nevada County Fair’s premium sale Thursday night, one of the largest in a long time.

The evening began with the buyer’s meal. Chance Cummings prepared and cut the meat, 15 briskets and eight pork loins, while Jamie Hillery provided the ham. The dinner was enjoyed in the Potlatch Building, which was packed with buyers, sellers and helpers all there to enjoy a meal.

After supper, everyone adjourned to the livestock arena for the main event. The chickens and rabbits didn’t bring in a lot from the auction, but more than made up for it in the add-on.

The auction began with Haylie Pickett earning $400 from Dr. Michael Young for her Grand Champion Market Lamb. This was followed by Karleigh Carlton taking home $325 from the Bank of Delight for her Grand Champion Market Goat. Leightyn Hillery got $300 from Dave’s Auto for her Grand Champion Market Steer, while Fred Harris paid $225 for Hunter Hicks’ Grand Champion Market Hog.

Kinsleigh Lester’s best of show rabbit brought in $100 from Farm Credit, while Logan Eubanks went home with $350 from Dr. Young for his Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb. Marley Godwin earned $375 from Farmers Bank for her Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat and Chase Dufrene got $250 for his Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer. Fred Harris paid $350 for Landon Harvey’s Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog.

Harris also paid $175 for Maddison Ivey’s Grand Champion Single Fryer rabbit, with Dr. Young paying $450 for Grayson Jackson’s Grand Champion Breeding Sheep. Cora Carlton earned $125 from the Bank of Delight for her class winner market goat, and Breanna Dillard got $250 from Farm Credit for her Overall Grand Champion Supreme Heifer. Brantley Miller got $200 from Harris with his second in class market hog, and Averie Jackson went home with $450 from Dr. Young for the Grand Champion Haired Commercial Ewe. Kash Fore got $200 from Farmers Bank for the class winner market goat, Christopher Hernandez earned $400 from Dr. Young for his Overall Reserve Supreme Commercial Heifer and Madison Marler got $200 from the Bank of Delight for her Grand Champion Registered Hereford Heifer.

Jordin Haley earned $100 from Harris with her second in class market hog, while Sawyer Jones got $225 from the Bank of Delight with his class winner market goat. Emmaline Ward earned $150 from Farm Credit for her Overall Grand Champion Registered Charolais Heifer and Chase Dice got $275 from Farm Credit for his Reserve Grand Champion American Heifer. Addie Ridling scored $500 from Southwest Arkansas Title Co. with her Grand Champion Commercial Doe and Farm Credit paid $125 for David Ward’s class winner Registered Charolais Heifer. Slade Hillery earned his $300 from the Bank of Delight for his Grand Champion English Commercial Heifer. Jacey Dickerson took home $25 from Harris for her Grand Champion Poultry Chain.

Harris bought Ainsley Rothenberger’s fourth in class market hog for $100 and Dacey Faulkner’s third in class market hog for $200. Southwest Arkansas Electric bought J.C. Carlton’s Class Winner American Commercial Heifer for $100, while Milam Cattle paid $275 for Jaxson Brzeski’s second in class American Commercial Heifer. Haley Dickerson’s reserve grand champion poultry chain was bought by her brother Hunter Hicks for 425. Kage Hillery got $175 from Dave’s Auto for his second in class American Commercial Heifer. Raylee Shelby got $250 from the Bank of Delight for her third in class American Commercial Heifer. Tye McGuire got $600 from M&M Wrecker for his fourth in class American Commercial Heifer.
