PRESCOTT – It’s been a while since there’s been a community coffee, but the Junior Auxiliary of Nevada sponsored one Tuesday at the Nevada County Library.

Danisha Purifoy, club president, thanked everyone for coming and reminded those attending this is the third full year for the JA to be in the county. She said the organization serves Prescott and all cities in the county and anyone living in the county can become a member – so long as they’re female. Purifoy said to be considered for membership interested parties must be recommended by a current or past member and approved.

JA, she continued, provides support to the community, though it’s primary focus is on child welfare. JA has different events throughout the year to raise money for its projects. The next one on tap is Feb. 25 with Handbag Bingo.

Devonna Tillman, the scholarship chairman, said the JA gives two scholarships to two students in the Prescott and Nevada school districts. These scholarships are $250 each with the deadline to apply Feb. 1. Tillman said she will be getting the scholarship information to the schools soon.

Purifoy pointed out there’s also a national scholarship for those in graduate school studying in a field that concerns children.
