HOPE – Hope’s Scout Troop 5 had a strong showing at the Caddo Area Council Order of the Arrow Call Out Ceremony at Camp Preston Hunt. The Scouts who are selected for the Order of the Arrow will be going through their orientation and initiation of the OA’s American Indian based traditions of unselfish service to others and lasting Brotherhood with fellow OA members. It is the
only fraternity in Scouts.
Order of the Arrow members attending were: Senior Patrol Leader Emma Wright, Hunter Mathis, Drake Hargis, Robert Wright, Ed Flagg, Karen Smith and Dr. Lester Sitzes. Many of the selectee’s parents and family members were present for the ceremony. Drake Hargis is a Lodge Advisor for the Council.
Twelve of the Caddo Area Council Scouts in the picture were selected for the OA. Troop 5 had 7 of those plus Mackenzi Golden has already called out at Summer Camp in Louisiana. So Troop 5 has 8 of the 13 Scouts going into the Order of the Arrow in December. Troop 5  Assistant Senior Patrol Leader Mary Martinez is an officer in the OA and portrayed one of the Indian Tribe leaders in the ceremony. Mary’s younger sister Melody and Troop 5 Scout was also in attendance.
Scouting in Hempstead County was well represented.
