PRESCOTT – From the time the doors opened at 9 a.m. until they closed at 11, the Potlatch Building was packed with people coming to the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce’s Breakfast with Santa Saturday.
Breakfast was a honey bun, apple sauce, rice krispie treats and juice. While the breakfast portion was popular, youngsters, in many cases, headed straight for the games – especially Bingo where prizes were given. As soon as a chair emptied at the Bingo table, it was quickly filled as children vied for the toys being given away as prizes. The toys were donated by the Swamprider Motorcycle Club as part of the club’s annual toy drive.
Lines were the norm for most events. The one where children could get their picture taken with Santa was always long, as was the line for the face painting table. Oddly enough, one of the most popular designs for face painting was the “Grinch”.
Youngsters also decorated cookies, wrote letters to Santa, colored bags that could be used in place of stockings, won prizes at the snowball toss, and made Santa spinners to show how busy the jolly old elf is this time of year.
Jamie Hillery, Chamber director, said this was possibly the largest crowd ever for Breakfast with Santa. Admission was a canned good, with volunteers at the entrance checking to make sure the donations hadn’t reached their expiration date.
