Street work tops discussion of Rosston City Council

ROSSTON – With little on the agenda, the first meeting of 2022 for the Rosston City Council Monday night didn’t take long.
First on the agenda was a discussion of street aid. Rosston Mayor Dale Quarles said this was approved last year, but Covid caused the work to be delayed. The projects to be done with state aid money this year are from City Hall to the water tower and around the front of the Nevada School to the bus barn. Quarles said he’d like to help the school out with the city contributing to help with the parking lots.
The first payment to Rosston of the new city sales tax should come in around March, he said. When it does and the city sees how much is coming in, the council will be asked to address how these funds should be used. Quarles said spending will be different this year because of the sale tax, and the city won’t be relying as much on the water revenue to pay bills. He reminded the panel the 2021 budget will need to be amended soon.
In the budget report, the council was informed the city has $127,881.82 in the Bank of Delight and $94,173.17 with Farmer’s Bank and Trust for a total of $222,004.97.
The final bit of discussion was notification of the cancellation of the winter conference due to Covid. Quarles said the city cancelled its reservations first, and saw where the conference was later cancelled because of the pandemic.
