Hope Lions Hear Program On Hope Bands

By Mark Keith, 01/17/22 9:28 PM

The Hope Lions Club heard from Steve Russell and Christian Davis on Monday about the Hope School Bands.  Russell, a local downtown business owner, noted he was standing in for his wife on behalf of the Hope Band Boosters (Julie Russell is the president).  Russell noted his son is in the band and greatly enjoys it.  He urged the club to support the band program as the numbers are up and the talent level is great.  Russell said there hasn’t been a lot of support for the band and his wife has restarted the Band Boosters.  The group meets the first Tuesday of every month, usually at the high school.  He noted there is also a facebook page for the Band Boosters.

Band Director Christian Davis said he thinks the more support the band students see, the more they will want to achieve.  Davis noted the band has a lot of talent right now.  The Jr. High band achieved over 20 students for all-region band including 4 “first chairs” in the all-region band from Hope.  Davis noted the high school band won 7 awards at marching competitions this fall including overall percussion awards, superior and excellent ratings for the band, and for the color guard.  The band program has about 270 members in grades 5th through 12th.  That includes a high school band of about 70 members.
