John Cain Chapter DAR Holds March Meeting

The John Cain Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at the Hempstead County Library for the March meeting.  Patrol Sergeant James Braddock of the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Department had a very informative program about the process of honoring a fallen officer.  There are off duty officers who take shifts guarding the casket from the time of death until the burial.  As the funeral service comes to a close, the flag is folded to be presented to the family.  Each of the thirteen folds of the flag has a particular meaning.  Taps is played at the conclusion of the service.  Stuffed animals were given to the Sheriff’s Department to be used as comfort toys for children who might need a little special attention during times when the deputies are dealing with certain situations.  If you have any interest in joining DAR or how you join, please call Bonnie Raff, Chapter Regent at 620-655-3054.
