Emmet’s first July 4 fireworks show a success
EMMET – Emmet’s inaugural Fourth of July celebration was a huge success as more showed for the event than live in the community.
Showers earlier in the day made for muggy conditions later in the afternoon, but this didn’t stop anyone from showing up. The area in front of the former school building was filled with vendors offering everything from chances to win cash to shaved ice. There was also plenty to eat on hand with burgers and street tacos along with plenty of ways to keep cool.
The event kicked off with a patriotic parade, with youngsters dressed patriotically walking the route, while all-terrain vehicles were bedecked with flags as well. The Saturday Night Band kept the crowd, many of who brought lawn chairs, entertained. A tent was set up to provide shade and a place to rest, while the younger crowd hit the bounce houses with a vengeance. A drawing was held with three cash prizes, $750, $500 and $250 going to a trio of lucky people.
In addition, veterans weren’t forgotten as those who served were asked to sign up. Those who did were given an American flag pin by Emmet Mayor Dale Booker. There was also a patriotic costume contest.
The entire event was funded by the Emmet Vision Association (EVA). Deanna Allen, a member of EVA, said the group’s next event will be it’s Second Annual Octoberfest. Plans are to add a 5k run to this year’s Octoberfest.
The highlight of the night, and reason most came out, was the fireworks show. The night skies over Emmet were lit up with brilliant explosions to the delight of the audience.
