David Lyle Porterfield
David Lyle Porterfield – dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend – passed away at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, TX on Sunday, August 14, 2022.
David was born to James Herald “Pod” and Lenna Jones Porterfield in Hope, AR on January 19, 1945. He graduated as a star football player from Hope High School in 1963 before attending Henderson University. At Henderson University, David met his wife Janis, and graduated in 1967. He then started a long career in multiple professions that was highlighted by spending the last 20 years as Hempstead County Bailiff and as an ordained Episcopal Priest for Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church in Hope, AR.
David and Janis married on June 9, 1968 and soon after welcomed their first child, Hayes. Two years later they welcomed their daughter, Brooke.
Through the years, David enjoyed hunting, fishing, talking about Hope Bobcat football, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. David was blessed with having so many friends and never met a stranger.
Surviving in addition to his wife Janis Porterfield, are his son Hayes Porterfield and his wife, Rachel Payson, of South Portland, ME; daughter Brooke Welden and her husband Ed Welden, of Birmingham, AL; four grandchildren Eileen Porterfield, Evan Porterfield, Mae Dowda, and Olivia Dowda.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 19, 2022 at 10:00 am-11:00 am at The First United Methodist Church of Hope. A Celebration of Life will follow, under the direction of Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home.
Those who wish to remember David in a special way may make gifts in his memory the First United Methodist Church of Hope or St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
