Thomas Hawthorne

Thomas (Tommy) Philo Hawthorne Sr. was born to Roy and Etta Hawthorne in Saline Township, Hempstead County, AR on October 30, 1947. He went to be with the lord peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones in his home on Tuesday December 13, 2022.

Tommy served in the United States Army from September 26, 1967, until his honorable discharge on September 1, 1973. He earned high remarks for his service including the Army Commendation Medal.  It states that his unrelenting loyalty, initiative, and perseverance brought him wide acclaim and inspired others to strive for maximum achievement. These remarks from his military superiors speak volumes as to the man he was and continued to be throughout his life.

August 8, 1980, he married his sweetheart Patricia (Pat) and became the father to her two young daughters. A few short years later the two would welcome a son. They would remain married for the duration of his life. Tommy was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing and hunting. He was a carpenter by nature and heart, if you were lucky enough to know him you likely became worthy of one of his coveted bowls. Those who were the most loved received a very special set of his nesting bowls, which took him many hours and a lot of love to make. On any day you could pull up to his workshop and talk with him while he worked. He loved his time in his wood shop the most.

Tommy was preceded in death by both parents, ten siblings, and one son, Thomas Philo Hawthorne Jr. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Ann Hawthorne, two daughters: Jannie and Clifford Moten of McNab, AR, Ginnie and Ronnie Cloyd of McNab, AR, and one very special Vera Hawthorne. He is also survived by one brother Doyle and Lucy Hawthorne of Hope, AR, one sister Henrietta Hendricks of Columbus, AR, and numerous nieces and nephews. Tommy is also survived by his many beloved grand and great grandkids. Tommy is already missed by all who knew and loved him.
