Hempstead County Quorum Court

The Hempstead County Quorum met Thursday for their regular monthly meeting. Following the prayer by JP Jesse Henry and the Pledge by JP Troy Lerew, the JP’s heard the annual “hot check report” for 2022. This was approved unanimously.
A resolution was approved that sets a line of succession in the Sheriff’s office in case the Sheriff is unable to fulfill his duties. The line would run first to the Chief Deputy, then C.I.D. Captain and Patrol Lieutinant.
JP Steve Atchley detailed work that needs to be made to the formber Farm Bureau Building before the Extension Service can move in. Judge Jerry Crane also noted the Hempstead County Health Unit needs some repairs and the current Courthouse Sprinkler System needs repairs. It was decided these will be tallied up and brought to the next Quorum Court meeting.
Prosecutor Ben Hale spoke to the Court about the old phone system versus the new phone system. Discussion ensured. The Prosecutor’s Office has instructed the County Clerk and Treasurer not to pay Teleogix (the county’s phone service vendor) any further funds until the problem is worked out.
The meeting then adjourned.
