Hope Lions Hear From Anna Powell on UAHT Foundation

The Hope Lions Club heard from Anna Powell on Monday.  Powell is the Executive Director of Advancement & UAHT Foundation.

She passed out an annual report on UAHT.  It shows the UAHT Foundation Endowment Growth has increased from $1.6 million to nearly $3 million dollars in 2022.  It also offered a “quick facts” section which noted there were 1,548 students in the last academic year.

Powell offered details of the upcoming “Beads, Bags, Bangles” event.  This year the theme is “Beads, Bags, Bangles, Beatles, and Bell Bottoms”.  The BBB event will be March 9th at 6pm at Hempstead Hall.  If you’d like to purchase tickets, visit hempsteadhall.com.  She also noted there is a raffle for a diamond necklace donated by Alexander’s Jewelers and those are $5.  There’s also a raffle for a 4 wheeler sponsored by Herndon-Fuqua and Ledwell.  The tickets on that are $50 each.  The BBB Committee has established a Kids’ College Endowment of $200,000.  BBB helps fund Kids’ Kolleg as well as Camp-Save-a-Life, Engineering and Manufacturing Camp of Creativity, Junior Ranger Summer Camp, and Safe Sitter.

The annual UAHT/Lions Club Fish Fry will be April 13th.  This helps fund the “You Can” scholarship.  This year’s event will not only have drive-through but will offer meals on campus.  There will also be live entertainment.

Powell noted that enrollment isn’t her department but she noted enrollment has increased 3.8% and coming off the reversals during COVID this is great news.

Powell wrapped up her program by talking about the affordability of UAHT.  She also said the Watermelon Festival concert act will be announced at the Chamber Banquet on April 10th.  Powell took questions following the presentation.
