Jacqueline McVay-Maxey

Jacqueline McVay-Maxey
One of the world’s most beautiful baby girls was born to Mary Hopson and Will E. “Bob” McVay Jr. on July 18, 1961, in Wichita, Kansas. She was named Jacqueline Yvonne McVay, and they affectionately called her “Jackie”. She was given a long name, which she lived up to with her infectious laughter and long-lasting smile.
At the tender age of nine years old, Jackie confessed Jesus as her Savior at Shiloh Baptist Church in Wichita, KS during the tenure of Rev. Robert L. Smith and Rev. Luther E. Smith. As an elementary student Jackie began her first career, modeling children’s clothes for Patricia Stevens Modeling Agency. Jackie was also active in school. She joined the school choir and held several leadership positions throughout high school.
Upon graduating from high school, she received her Medical Assistant Certificate from Bryan’s Institute in Wichita, KS. She also attended Wichita State University for one year continuing her health care studies. Jackie then went on to serve as a nurse at Kansas Masonic Home for three years.
After relocating to Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1982, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1983 where she continued her nursing career caring for others with a grateful heart and warm smiles. In 1988, Jackie moved on to Hope, Arkansas where she united with Providence Baptist Church Full Gospel Ministry under the leadership of Bishop Johnny L. Jones. She also began working at the Department of Human Services in the Child Welfare Division.
Jackie delivered an adorable baby girl in 1989, named Mary Melanise after her maternal grandmother so they called her “Lil’ Mary.” Jackie was active in her daughter’s life, education and school activities. She even served as a girl scout leader for Lil’ Mary, in her church choir, and as a proud majorette mom. Overall, she had a warm heart and kind spirit. These attributes allowed her to become a godmother to several children in different states, throughout her life.
In 1996, Jackie united in matrimony to Jeff Maxey. The family moved to Greenville, Mississippi where they joined church at Agape under the leadership of Pastor Williams. She also added management to her health career with employment at General Nutrition Corporation (GNC). It was an ideal job for her because it allowed her to do the thing that she loved most and that was talking. Talking and smiling was her life and work zone! Jackie could wake you up talking then put you to sleep talking.
In 2013, she moved to Orlando, Florida and joined the Faith Christian Center where Pastor Dexter was the shepherd. She later united with Rejoicing the Lord Ministry of Apopka, FL where Pastor Zak was the minister. Over the years, Jackie remained employed at GNC until her health began to fail. After a brief illness, the Lord called His smiling angel home at the age of 61 in Orlando, FL. We’d loved to think that He said, “Come on home and continue to smile for me in heaven.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Hopson-McVay and Will E. McVay Jr. of Hope AR; grandparents, Lequillia and Will E. McVay Sr. of Muskogee, OK, and Mary and Neal Hopson of Hope, AR.
Jackie leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Mary M. McVay of Orlando, FL; sister, Janis (Errol) McVay-Todd of Hope, AR; two brothers, Will E. McVay III of Hope, AR and Nathanial McVay of Jonesboro, AR; one uncle, Willie McVay; nephews, Cameron McVay and Errol Todd Jr.; great niece and nephew, Miracle and Kavious Sanders; foster brother, Richard Charles Loudermilk; cousin/brother, Elmer C.
