Lions Hear Program On “The Call”
The Hope Lions heard a program on “The Call” Monday from Gina Perkins. Perkins explained “The Call” is an Arkansas organization that assists in finding, training, and supporting foster families. Hempstead County usually has anywhere from 10 to 30 kids in foster care at any time. Perkins explained Hempstead County was the 46th county in the state to set up a local organization.
Perkins’ family has fostered children since 2019 and they’ve fostered about 40 children. She noted “The Call” is a tremendous asset to foster families with all sorts of assistance such as meals, gift cards, and clothing. Perkins said the support of “The Call” helps foster families continue and not burn out. “The Call” also has a support group that meets monthly at Garrett Memorial Baptist Church. The whole family attends then the kids go to the gym to play while the foster parents visit and exchange ideas.
Perkins says “The Call” helps foster families find qualified baby-sitters as well. She also talked about their fund-raising soup sales.
The Lions enjoyed hearing Perkins’ personal experiences and asked questions. Anyone interested in learning more about “The Call” can contact Perkins or Dixie Coffee in Hope.
