Shirley Taunton Sklar, 77, of Austin, Texas

Shirley Taunton Sklar passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023 in Austin, Texas at age 77.

She is survived by her two daughters and their families, Shayna & Art, Zachary, Wyatt &

Yannick Counts in Austin, TX; Staci & Creed, Luke and Avery Taylor in Signal

Mountain, TN; as well as 3 nieces: Shawna Pedroza (Dallas, TX) and Kelly Patton

(Huntington Beach, CA) and Christi Patton (Houston, TX).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Maxine Taunton and her older

brother Irvin Taunton.

Shirley was born in Hope, Arkansas, but considered Austin her true home when she

moved there to attend the University of Texas at Austin in1964. She spent happy and

carefree years at UT at the Scottish Rite dorm. She was known to yell Hook ‘em Horns

at every opportunity.

Shirley was a devout Christian and was active in her home church of Peachtree Corners

Baptist Church until she was unable to attend in person. She was truly the most loving

and selfless mother, a loyal friend and had the silliest sense of humor. She showered

her children and grandchildren with love. She will be dearly missed by all who had the

chance to know her. We take comfort that she is now rejoicing with her Heavenly

Father.
