Farewell party held for Janet Hood

PRESCOTT -Saturday was a chance for local residents to bid farewell to a long-time fixture in the community.
Janet Hood, former owner of Nevada Realty, has retired, sold her business and will be leaving Prescott to move to Chatanooga, TN. Hood and her husband, John, arrived in Prescott in 1999, coming to the community so he could work at the garment factory as plant manager. He had been working at Star City and before that in North Carolina. Once the local garment factory closed, Hood studied for, and earned, his real estate license. Janet already had her license and was selling real estate in town. A farewell party was held in the fellowship hall at First United Methodist Church.
The couple worked together, purchasing Nevada Realty from Brenda Williams, and operating it until Janet sold it back to Williams recently. Hood tells the story of how for a long time after coming to Prescott John only knew how to find the garment factory and the Prescott Country Club by turning either left or right at the stop light on Main. After getting his real estate license, he learned the community.
Hood was born in Gastonia, NC and the family moved to Lake City, FL, where he father was a bus driver. They later returned to North Carolina where she met her husband. The couple had two daughters, three grandsons and four great-grandchildren. Hood said she has family and friends scattered in all times zones in the country.
While in Prescott, Hood was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Kiwanis Club.
