Hope Kiwanis Hears Program From Director of Magnet Programming Dr. Carol Ann Duke

The Hope Kiwanis Club heard from Hope Public Schools Director of Magnet Programming Dr. Carol Ann Duke on April 25th. The district has been the recipient of a $15 million dollar magnet grant to be used over the next five years. Dr. Duke, who has served for the past 7 years as the principal of HAPS, noted the district recently held a “Magnet Fair” to share some of the options for students in grades 4 through 8 in the magnet program.

Dr. Duke noted there will be emphasis on digital literacy and journalism on several of the campuses. This will include development of podcasts and at least a monthly live broadcast by the students. Dr. Duke said at this point they are exploring the options for students at Beryl Henry, Yerger, and HAPS. She noted over the next five years there will be more opportunities for students “than we can imagine”.

Dr. Duke noted two of the robotics teams of the district are going to the world championships in Dallas and are seeking sponsors for t-shirts. The Kiwanis Club voted to donate towards the shirts and gave Dr. Duke a check before she left. Kiwanis President Charlotte Bradley is shown making the presentation following the meeting Tuesday.
