Kiln comes through Prescott

PRESCOTT – It was as though the circus had come to town Sunday, as crowds lined the streets to get a look at a giant kiln passing through.

The kiln, 200 feet long, came through Prescott on its way to Gum Springs, where it will be set up and used to dispose of electric car batteries, along with other toxic materials.

The kiln had its own traveling troupe as crews went in front of the device to make sure power lines were moved high enough for it to cross under, and other crews followed to lower the lines back to their original status. There was a great deal of curiosity as to how the kiln would make the turn from Hwy. 371 onto E. 2nd St. South, which is a sharp S curve.

Originally, the kiln was to have arrived by 10 a.m., but delays resulted in it not showing up until well after noon. People were lined up taking pictures and videos with their phones, some live streaming, as the kiln made its turn without issue. Once on Second Street, the kiln headed to Main where it turned right, ventured to Hwy. 53 through Gurdon and on to Gum Springs without incident.
