Meyers recognized as Rosston VFD chief

ROSSTON – Judy Meyers was recognized as the new Rosston Fire Chief at the June meeting of the Rosston City Council Monday night.
Rosston Mayor Dale Quarles said she’s been doing an outstanding job in the community and has been bringing the department back to life. He continued saying a recent fundraiser the department held was a success and more are planned for the future. Currently, she’s working to get the certifications she needs for the position. “We’re proud to have her as chief,” he said. “Nothing she’s done has gone unnoticed.”
Meyers said she plans to get the department more involved in the community with more fundraisers, including a monthly Bingo night. She’s working on getting a license for Bingo.
In other business, the panel was told the budget is steady on water bills and the city has paid two bills off. Quarles said a lot of people received shut off notices last month and paid their bills, but there’s more to do. He added the city is looking at ways to assist those having trouble paying their bills and encouraged residents having problems to come to the city with them before getting a shut off notice. Quarles said there could be ways the city could work something out with the people.
He told the council he’s been spending a lot of time with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) because of the February ice storm. The city, he said, applied for disaster assistance and that’s going well, but there’s a lot of work involved. The community, he continued, is close to being done with the cleanup, but FEMA is requiring documentation on everything done.
