PRESCOTT – Meeting procedures were explained to members of the Nevada County Quorum Court at its June meeting Tuesday evening.

Nevada County Clerk Tammie Rose informed the court it doesn’t have to vote on either the financial report or minutes if there are no questions or changes, according to the Association of Arkansas County’s rules of order.

Rose also read two ordinances, one to amend the budget and provide for the raise to the courthouse staff full and part timers along with CDL drivers, which was approved at the May meeting. The other was to amend the ARPN fund. Technically neither was approved, though Rose followed the procedure of reading the entire ordinance the first time and by title only afterwards. However, when the motion was made to approve each ordinance, no vote was taken.

Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, told the court help is available for small businesses and farms wanting to utilize green energy. She said the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has programs available to help, which are 50 percent grant and 50 percent loan.

She also said preparations for Thursday’s job fair are coming along. The fair is to help workers displaced from Holcim find work. Overall, 74 were let go by the company, with 24 being from Prescott. Companies participating in the fair include: Aerojet Rocketdine, Paramount Fuels, Love’s Travel Center, Old Washington, Georgia Pacific, Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana, Albemare, Pafford, the Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District, Hope Baking Co., Arkansas Department of Workforce Services, Manpower, SAU-Tech, Rainbow of Challenges and the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

UAHT, she said, will have two booths set up to help those who are interested in furthering their education.

The job fair is from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Potlatch Building at the Nevada County Fair Park.
