Margaret Alice Moore Still, 104, of Hope

On June 14th, 2023, Margaret Alice Moore Still passed away at the age of 104 in Hope, Arkansas.

Margaret was born in the small town of Emmet in 1919 to Samuel Archie and Myrtie Wren Bright Moore. Margaret lived a full life with many passions: spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, and sewing quilts.

She attended Emmet High school and met Jewell Warren Still, her future husband, at a basketball game. They were married for 62 years.

She co-founded Still’s Auto Service in 1959 with Jewell. Margaret juggled raising 3 boys with being secretary and bookkeeper among other duties. She was head cook and most customers knew not to call during dinner (lunch) since the boys would be eating one of her hearty meals. Her pecan pies were well-known not only at the Thanksgiving table but also at many local potlucks. Margaret worked at the shop until she was in her eighties, always ready with a kind smile for everyone who came in.

On their farm, Jewell and Margaret raised cows and chickens and maintained a large garden. She was not afraid of hard work and put in the hours to reap a fruitful harvest and to make delicious meals with the produce.

As a faithful member of Garrett Memorial Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School, VBS, and served as president and other offices in their WMA group.

In her own words reflecting on her life, Margaret said “I have had failure, disappointment, and sorrow but through it all (my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ), I have been given much success, love, and happiness.”

“His Lord said unto him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’” -Matthew 25: 21

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jewell Warren Sr., and her sister Dorcee (Herschel) Patterson.

Margaret is survived by sons Jewell (Brenda), Randy (Nancy) and Don (Betsy); grandchildren Lisa (Gary) Singleton, Hunter (Jessi) Still, Angie Still, Samantha Still, and Rebecca Still; great grandchildren Preston Still, Noah Still, Avyn Jewell Still, and Aubryn Still; and great nephew Sammy (Missy) Patterson.
