The free summer day camp held on July 1 at the UAHT Hempstead Hall was hosted by the April R. Love Foundation.. The day camp provided breakfast and lunch for the youth. The day schedule was filled with speakers on topics designed to motivate, empower and work on communication skills, problem solving, and how our feelings correlate with our actions and interactions. Speakers for the event included: Mrs. Juanita Jones who spoke on Communicating without Violence; Jonathan Daniel used Christian hip/hop music to underscore the messages and words in the music youth are listening to daily; Dr. Buster Lackey presented a presentation on Feelings and Mental Health; and Pine Bluff Chief of Police Denise Richardson spoke to Real Life Situations and engaged youth with Interactive role play on encounters with the Police.
Ben Brazzel of Brazzel-Oakcrest, Fulton Grass, First National Bank of Tom Bean, and Pafford Medical Billing Services helped sponsor the day camp. Other community supporters provided drinks, snacks, and door prizes.
