HEMPSTEAD COUNTY 4-H LIVESTOCK PROJECT….An Open Letter to the Community
Hello, my name is Huck Plyler. I am a member of the Hempstead County 4-H and I
will be showing my show cattle Keisha, Jamal, Vanessa, and Bruce Wayne my home grown sheep this year in the 2023 county fair. I have worked very hard with my animals and traveled many miles already with them this summer. We have attended many jackpot shows in Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana and ended the summer in Minnesota at the AIJCA Charolais Jr. National show. There me and Keisha, took home fourth overall Jr. Champion Showman and my team won Champion Team Fit for the third year in a row. It has been a great show season so far and I am looking forward to continuing it with the County Fair, District, AYE, State Fair and so many more in between.
As many of you may know I had a rough go at it from an injury working cattle back in February. I finally got back in the show ring down in Louisiana around May and ever since then I have been working my cattle and halter breaking a few more to sell. I subsidize a lot of my show cost by halter breaking and selling show heifers to other kids out of my own stock. And my personal favorite, I go to our local sale barn and buy cattle to grow out and sell. Now some do become a part of our ET program but that is to be expected.
I truly love all things cattle and if you are looking for me, you can always find me in my barn. I have learned so much working in the barns of great cattlemen across the states and I’m thankful for every experience that cattle has brought to me.
The 2023 Hempstead County Fair will be held Thursday, August 31st at 5:30pm and I will be exhibiting my animals that day along with many other hard working kids. We would love to see you there in the stands. On Friday, September 1st at 11:30am I will be participating in our annual Hempstead County Fair Premium Sale. There will be a meal provided with the sale starting at noon and we would love to see you there to support our local youth in their AG projects. I sure look forward to speaking with you about my projects.
My project expenses from this program year will be offset by the sale price received at the premium sale. Thank you in advance for your time.
