Duke and Stewart Volunteer With Arts & Crafts at District Fair

Judy Duke and Phyllis Stewart volunteered to staff the arts and crafts exhibit at the District Fair. They are both from Fair Hills in Nevada County and Members of Nevada County’s Homemaker’s Extension Club. The first club was established in 1912 as the Home Demonstration Club.
When asked why they joined the EHC they responded they were both homemakers and it is about being part of the community as EHC supports food, preservation, homemaking, crafts, educational programs, mental and physical health and volunteering. They get together with women with similar interests and who are willing to learn new ones.
They helped with the Nevada County Fair and have a homemaker’s extension building there. They take in the exhibits which include food preservation, quilting, household goods and fall gardening.
To do their part they volunteered to for the district fair to represent their district.
Their organization has three points represented on their shirts – community service, leadership development and education.
