NSD employees to get bonus

ROSSTON – Full-time employees with the Nevada School District will be getting a bonus in November.
This was approved by the Nevada School Board at its September meeting Thursday night. The amount will be determined by the staff at a later date.
There will be no school board election for the Nevada district as Matt Herring is the only candidate on the ballot. Instead, there will be a candidate election where he can vote for himself to remain on the board. The board approved a resolution allowing this.
In other business, Nevada Elementary School Principal Tonda Pennington said October is high school good behavior month. A donation the school received will allow rewards for students exhibiting the best behavior. All high school students will get a drink and snack and there will be a drawing where the winner gets $100, second place receives $50 and third place earns $25.
She said parent teacher conferences will be Oct. 19 from 3:30-6:30 p.m., with school letting out early that day.
Roy McCoy, superintendent, said the district’s scores will be released soon and announced before the October meeting during the annual report to the public. The next meeting is Oct. 26.
Lily Gulley was hired as a new bus driver and Matt Miller was hired for the maintenance department.
