PRESCOTT – This year’s fall festival will be different from those in the past.

First off, the 5K run/walk will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. Normally, the race begins around 7 a.m. with registration and is over by 8:30 at the latest. In addition, there will be some different events during the festival – one being the husband calling contest. Apparently this is popular at the Iowa State Fair. Basically, women will go on stage and see who has the best voice for calling a husband. The winner will receive $100 cash, but it doesn’t state whether the women have to call their own husbands or a prospective one.

Another new event is the children’s bike ride. This is a one-mile ride for youngsters starting in front of the post office. Streets will be blocked off for safety. The ride will start at 11:45 a.m. For the truly brave of heart, there’s a karaoke hour from noon until 1 p.m. During this hour, people can take center stage and show off their vocal skills, or lack thereof, but it’s all in fun.

For the first time, there will be a motorcycle show, sponsored by the Swamprider Motorcycle Club. There is no entry fee, but the winner will take home a cool $500 in cash. This is an all-day event, going from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. There will be five categories for the public to vote on in choosing a winner. The voting will be from 12-3:15 p.m. The categories are: cruiser, ratbike, sport, dresser and antique. Contestants in the show will be voting on best of show at 3:30. The SRMC will also be raising money for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Of course, there will be plenty of the favorite events at the festival, including the bunco tourney, festival pageant and basketball shootout. There will also be a 50-50 raffle, along with a rifle raffle where people can buy chances on a Savage .308 bolt-action rifle and music. This year’s featured group is the White Dog Band. The band will take the stage at 1:30 p.m.

The day’s schedule is as follows: 9 a.m., 5k run/walk; 9:30 first clue for golden pumpkin given; 10 PHS band on stage/Bunco tourney starts; 11 a.m. 5K winners named; 11:30, Dancetastics/ second golden pumpkin clue, if needed; 11:45, kid’s bike ride; noon, Karaoke hour; 1 p.m. husband calling contest; 1:30, White Dog Band/final golden pumpkin clue if needed; 3 p.m. pageants; and 4 o’clock, raffle winners announced.

Not only will these events be going on, but vendors will be on hand showing what they’ve got, and there will be plenty to eat as well.
