The Hope Downtown Network held “A Taste of Hope” on Saturday (10-7). There was plenty of good food to be sampled with Hiro-Hiro, Amigo Juan’s, Big Mac’s Barbecue, The Melon Patch, Hope Donuts, Tailgaters, Terry Powell’s, Little Teapot Bakery all having food at the event. Hiro-Hiro won the people’s choice award with their vegetable rolls, vegetable rice and noodles as well chicken. Tailgaters had a good potato salad. Little Teapot Bakery had some good banana muffins as well as pasta. The Melon Patch had pan fried potatoes. Amigo Juan’s had guacamole and a strawberry refreshment. Big Mac’s Barbecue had their famous baked beans.
Elsewhere, there was a paint by number event with children eagerly painting the flowers as well as some adults. The Pocket Park won the vote for receipt of money earned from the event.
There was a fashion show and an auction. Items auctioned included a historical photo of downtown, a quilt, a bench and an antique rifle.
The statement was made that it doesn’t matter where you live we all share downtown. Mark Ross talked about the reduction of vacancies downtown and gave Bob Erwin credit for his role in the process.
There was also a speakeasy with mocktails in the Downtown Network building which was opened to the public for the first time.
Also a couple of alleyways had paintings hung and there were a couple of older antique cars parked out so that people could admire them.
